Outdoor Activities

Did you know that in 1990 UNESCO designated the Niagara escarpment as a World Biosphere?

Did you know that a large part of the Ontario Greenbelt cuts right through the Niagara Region?

The diversity of natural and sustainable areas is one of the greatest things that sets Niagara apart from your typical vacation destination. Most people already know about the incredible and powerful Niagara Falls, and the award winning wineries that call Niagara home, but there are literally thousands of other outdoor experiences waiting for you throughout this magical region. When you come to the Niagara Region, you will immediately be surrounded by it.

For those who have culinary cravings, there are pick-your-own and commercial fruit farms with individual stands selling the best in locally grown ingredients. There are also plenty of free range and organic farms offering a wide range of domestic and exotic products.

If sports and athletic pursuits are your preferred distractions, the Niagara Region has hundreds of kilometers of walking, hiking, and Niagara cycling trails. With terrain for all levels of participation, from leisurely to extreme, there is something for everyone. This includes the head portion of the Bruce Trail, which receives visitors daily from around the world. But outdoor adventure doesn’t stop there; Niagara has rock climbing, canoeing, camping, and parachuting, sailing, parks, scuba diving, and numerous waterfalls all along the escarpment. And if that isn’t enough, we have over 40 public golf courses waiting for your best game.

Looking for something a little less active? How about the experience of watching the hawks from the crest of the escarpment at the observation area in Beamer Park, or a day of strolling along the beaches of either Lake Ontario or Lake Erie.

These are only some of examples of the incredible outdoor lifestyle which awaits you in Niagara.
